Thank-you all for the support given and the trust you have invested in me. Also, a special thanks to the DRA Executive members who have been catalytic in my career as a rheumatologist in New Delhi. These are exciting times for the Rheumatology Fraternity mostly because there has been an explosion of new molecules; Biologics, Bio-similars and targeted synthetic DMARDs among others. Moreover, the recognition of Rheumatology as a major clinical speciality and the elevation from just another sub-speciality in medicine, has attracted DNB and Doctorate (DM) aspirants to this field. There are now 4 DNB rheumatology training and degree granting centres in Delhi and they are; Sir Gangaram Hospitals, Apollo-Indraprastha Hospitals, Medanta Hospitals and the Research and Referral Hospitals. Medical students and physicians with interest in rheumatology look forward to the academic calendar of the DRA. This also necessitates an increase in the efforts we make to reach out to both the Internist and the Specialist. To that effect, the need for having a larger program for the Annual DRA, catering to both the Internist in one set of sessions and the Specialist in another set of sessions, in one calendar year, has been vocalized by senior DRA executive members and this plan may need to be implemented. This year in September, a MID-TERM DRA MEET will be held with the theme ‘New in RA”, aimed at discussing the new trends in RA management. Moreover, the expectations from the medical community, in general, is for wider participation of rheumatologists even in “their” area of work for example nephritis and osteoporosis, just to mention a few examples. We should, therefore, aim to engage the medical community including orthopaedic surgeons in “our” area of work and collaborate wherever possible. Also, our commitment to a cleaner environment should make us plan and adopt more environment friendly technologies like “e-meetings”. Lastly, our own fraternity of rheumatologists and rheumatology-physicians from Delhi/NCR need to collaborate more frequently and work on projects that highlight the pre-eminent position of the Delhi Rheumatology Association among all associations in India!
