Delhi Rheumatology Association (DRA) Grants & Support

The Delhi Rheumatology Association (DRA) aims to promote academic excellence, research culture, innovation, and scientific exchange in the field of Rheumatology. DRA Grants are intended to encourage young rheumatologists, fellows, postgraduate students, and researchers to undertake meaningful research projects and participate in important scientific meetings.

The structure of the DRA Grants & Support Program is aligned with the academic objectives of the Indian Rheumatology Association research and academic support initiatives.

Aim of the DRA Grants

The DRA Grants aim to:

  • Promote high-quality research and academic activities in Rheumatology.

  • Encourage young rheumatologists, fellows, DM/DNB residents, and postgraduate students to undertake innovative and clinically relevant research.

  • Support thesis work and scientific presentations at national and international conferences.

  • Improve research culture, collaboration, and academic excellence among DRA members.

  • Encourage generation of original Indian data relevant to Rheumatology practice.

Categories of DRA Grants

1. Research Grant

DRA Research Grants are intended to support clinically relevant and innovative research projects in Rheumatology.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a member of the Delhi Rheumatology Association (DRA).

  • Applicant should be below 45 years of age in the applicable year.

  • Preference may be given to projects relevant to Indian patients and clinical practice.

 

Grant Support

  • Up to ₹1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh only) per selected project.

 

Scope of Funding

The grant may be utilized strictly for:

  • Laboratory consumables

  • Reagents

  • Investigations

  • Data collection

  • Research-related expenses directly connected to the approved project

 

The grant shall not be utilized for:

  • Personal remuneration

  • Travel

  • Accommodation

  • Conference registration fees

  • Non-research-related expenses

 

Duration

  • The grant approval shall remain valid for one year from the date of sanction.

 

2. Thesis Grant

 

DRA Thesis Grants are intended to support postgraduate thesis and fellowship research work in Rheumatology.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a member of the Delhi Rheumatology Association (DRA).

  • Applicant should be below 45 years of age in the applicable year.

  • Preference may be given to DM/DNB residents, fellows, and postgraduate trainees.

  • The mentor/guide is encouraged to be an active DRA member.

 

Objectives

  • To encourage high-quality thesis work.

  • To support young trainees in academic research.

  • To improve research methodology and scientific writing among postgraduate students and fellows.

 

Funding Support

  • Support may be provided for approved academic and thesis-related expenses only.

  • Funds shall not be used for travel, accommodation, or personal expenditure.

 

3. Travel Grant

DRA Travel Grants are intended to support young rheumatologists presenting scientific work at important national and international Rheumatology meetings.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a member of the Delhi Rheumatology Association (DRA).

  • Applicant should be below 45 years of age in the applicable year.

  • Preference may be given to young investigators, fellows, DM/DNB residents, and postgraduate trainees.

  • The mentor/guide is encouraged to be an active DRA member.

 

Objectives

  • To encourage scientific presentations by young rheumatologists at national and international meetings.

  • To promote academic interaction and scientific exchange in the field of Rheumatology.

  • To encourage presentation of original research, case series, and thesis work at reputed conferences.

  • To support young trainees and early-career rheumatologists in academic development.

 

Funding Support

  • Travel Grant support may be provided for conference registration, travel, accommodation, or other approved academic expenses related to conference participation.

  • The amount and number of grants awarded each year shall depend on the availability of DRA funds and recommendations of the Credentials/Academic Committee.

 

Eligible Meetings

Travel Grants may be considered for attendance at:

  • Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology Congress

  • European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology Congress

  • American College of Rheumatology Annual Meeting

  • IRACON and other recognized national/international scientific meetings

 

Preference

Preference may be given to applicants who:

  • Are presenting oral papers or posters

  • Are first authors/presenting authors

  • Are young investigators or fellows

  • Have accepted abstracts at the conference

  • Have not previously received similar DRA travel support recently

 

Funding Cycle & Announcement

  • DRA will announce the grants every year before June.

  • Submission of applications shall open only after the official announcement by DRA.

  • Applications received after the notified deadline may not be considered.

 

Research Proposal Submission

Applicants should submit a concise proposal (maximum 3 pages) including:

  1. Brief Introduction

  2. Key Question(s)

  3. Novelty and relevance of the project

  4. Brief Methodology

  5. Budget

  6. Ten Key References

 

Applications should be submitted by email to:

delhirheumatology@gmail.com  addressed to the Secretary, DRA.

Evaluation of Proposals

 

Applications shall be reviewed by the DRA Academic/Credentials Committee based on:

  • Scientific merit

  • Novelty of the project

  • Relevance to Rheumatology practice

  • Feasibility of methodology

  • Budget justification

  • Potential academic impact

 

The decision of the Credentials Committee shall be final.

Terms & Conditions

  1. The grant shall be utilized strictly for expenses directly related to the approved research project, including laboratory consumables, reagents, investigations, data collection, and other permissible research-related expenditures.

  2. The sanctioned amount shall not be utilized for personal remuneration, travel, accommodation, conference registration fees, or any non-research-related expenses, except in the case of approved Travel Grants.

  3. Any change in the study protocol, objectives, methodology, or timeline must be informed to and approved by the DRA Academic Committee in writing.

  4. The investigator shall submit a progress report, if requested, and a final completion report at the end of the study.

  5. A summary of the research findings should be presented at a DRA Monthly Clinical Meeting/Academic Program after completion of the project.

  6. Investigators are encouraged to present the research outcomes at:

    • IRACON

    • Annual DRA UPDATE

    • Other recognized national/international scientific meetings

  7. All publications, abstracts, posters, and presentations arising from the supported work must acknowledge DRA support as follows: “This work was supported by a Research Grant from the Delhi Rheumatology Association (DRA).”​

  8. Release of the grant amount shall be subject to submission of:

    • Acceptance of grant terms and conditions

    • Institutional Ethics Committee approval (if applicable)

    • Utilization Certificate signed by the appropriate institutional authority

  9. DRA reserves the right to request additional documents, clarifications, or audit records related to utilization of the grant whenever necessary.

  10. Preference may be given to projects with potential publication and presentation value.
